Want to learn how to buy your first castle?

Hi there everyone:
I love reading non-fiction books. I know, I know, I am missing out but I can't help it because real life wisdom and stories are addictive since I just love to learn. I understand that one can learn from fiction too but I just need it to be more straight forward in a non-fiction genre.

When showing houses I want to be ready for a teaching sharing moment. I learn so much from people while in the process and experience joy when individuals purchase their first castle (home) due to my knowledge or advice. You've heard the saying a man's home is his castle. My version is your home is your castle. I wasn't born with this knowledge, I read, I listen and I practice what I have learned daily.

In Suze Orman's book The Courage to be Rich she writes a great chapter called Seeking Shelter. I wish I could afford an unlimited amount of copies to give everyone I meet but I realize a better way to share this knowledge and bask in many other talented financial people is to visit your local public library. Yes that is right.Your local library is one of your biggest fans and friend for future knowledge in many subjects.

Inside your local public library is a wellspring of knowledge and community minded people to help you. Therefore with that in mind I am starting in November ongoing seminars called...get ready for it. - "HOW TO BUY YOUR FIRST CASTLE"

The first seminar is on November 19th at the Saint John Free Public Library from 7 - 8pm. I will be there to teach the skills to assist you in purchasing your first home, or for me it is your castle. Other related Real Estate industry professionals are dropping by as well during these monthly get together s, they are:
Cindy McFarland -from Home Loans Canada. 647 1164
Susan Lackie - Mobile Specialists from TD Canada Trust.650 2241
Leah Straight -from The Investors Group 632 8930

The day of our first seminar the library will be hosting a reading by first time author, Dawn MacInnis. Dawn won Trinity Enterprise Inc. pitch the publisher contest, with the book titled "MY FIRST HOUSE" A single girls journey.

Dawn doesn't mix words and if you want to hear the real deal come and meet Dawn at 7 pm at the Saint John Free Public Library on Thursday November 19th from 7- 8 pm.

Each month I will rotate to each library in and around the Saint John area. As much as possible I will invite guests from various industry sectors of the Real Estate industry. If you are part of our industry please contact me as you may want to join us and share your expertise. Coffee and a light snack will be provided.

Below is my schedule from November to May.

November 19th, Saint John Free Public Library- Author reading MY FIRST HOUSE 7-8 pm
November 26th, West Side Pubic Library - 7- 8pm -
December 1 East Side Public Library -7-8pm
January 26, 2010-KV Public Library-7-8 pm
February 25, pm Saint John Free Public Library-7-8pm
March 25,-West Side Public Library 7-8 pm
April 29th, -East Side Public Library 7-8pm

We will break for June, July and August as the summer is too short to be inside.

If you are looking to have a Real Estate consultation now don't hesitate to call me to book an appointment.

If you currently own a castle (home) I offer free market evaluations. To learn how to stage and prepare your home for re-sale go to Re/max's website www.remax.ca to find out lots of helpful free tips about many real estate topics.

See you at the library!

Back to Basics for Kim at Cabins2Castles

Hello everyone:

Well, I have completed a test over the last three months that has created a new outlook for me in terms of time management. First I decided to forget about email and use the phone more often and, second I decided to be more out and about and networking face to face to meet and attract people to my Real Estate business and other initiatives in my life.

Guess what? It worked. My conclusion of my test for the last three months is as follows:

Technology is a tool and should not be deemed that an email- website- blog- twitter -facebook- myspace- linkdon-and so on is going to spur people on to get them fired up and call you. Find you yes, research about you, yes, but to make a decision unless you are indispensable which no one is, NO.Back to basics is my motto and sharing bits of your life not huge chunks is all that is needed.

I love the feel of meeting people, reading their body language, seeing there faces and hearing the tone of their voice engages my senses to really understand my clients. I feel better at the end of the day and I know I have made a difference in the transaction.

Don't get me wrong, you can't beat this box we call a PC for administration and organizing. You can't beat it for long distance phone savings or web- cam to see loved ones, and you can't beat it for ordering a widget or selling one if you can't obtain it locally, but for your business back to basics and feet on the street works best.

Real Estate is all about walking the property and feeling the ground underneath while asking yourself, can I come home to this place and put my feet up?

I am now blogging at the end of each month and twittering once a week on Fridays. Facebook is now going to be put on hold except to respond to people. Email is for validating phone conversations and putting it to file for clients or for immediate correspondence for legal documents. Research remains a Google domain and other then that out of my 10 - 12 hour day this screen gets max 1 hour of my day maximum 1.5 hours.

Try it. My world has changed, for the better.

See you at the end of October.

We may not have it altogether but together we are better

One of the rewarding things about being in the Real Estate industry is how quickly as an agent I can find the necessary resources for a buyer or a seller within my Saint John community especially in Ward 1 which emcompasses Uptown, South End and the North End of the City of Saint John.

It is a large geographical area that has many beautiful homes of all strips as well as multi-units and of course the fixer uppers that are just ready to be loved. It has many businesses and services too that can assist me in helping my clients.

If you think about it your home is the centre of almost everything you do. It is your refuge, your place to regroup, to play and have fun and create memories for you and your family. If you are a first time home buyer its the beginning of a wonderful journey.

Your home is an expression of who you are. Once you have approved financing, a location or a few locations are in your mind and your criteria of what you desire in a home is made, I go to work for you to assist in finding that place, or finding that buyer who will continue to love your property while you move on to another one.

Its fun, and I consult and care about you first. Along the way the following people and their resources are with me after I sell or find your paradise. I have spoken to all of these people one way or another and everyone is keen on helping you during and after your journey of selling or purchasing a home.

Together we can make your experience better. Just give them a call and say you read it on
my blog cabins2castles@blogspot.com. They are keen on helping you.

I never refuse a referral and never think twice about calling me for a consultaion. I'm here for you with over 30 years of business experience in the field of buying and selling.

More businesses are coming into the cabins2castles fold. We may not have it altogether but together we are better. Please take notice that the majority of the above businesses are independent owner and operators so it is important that we work together.

Lastly....I know I am long winded today but the tax credits being offered for closing costs and renovations have a time limit. Remember its the goverment so nothing goes on forever so give me a call so I can explain the process. The energy efficiency grants I believe will have a longer shelf life so take that into consideration too when buying or selling your home.

See you next week.

First Time Home Buyer-The will to succeed

Trying to muster the down payment to own your first home is a major task. Once a sufficient down payment is in place your financing is approved then deciding where to purchase a home is the next part of the journey.

The needs and wants list is made, and off you go with great joy. Your will and enthusiasm to succeed at this point is whow world get ready, I am out on a mission to find my "dream house."

This is where a professional, capable, caring Real Estate Agent is so important. There is plenty of material which is free in every medium or media for you to review but nothing beats a live person showing you the properties, and guiding you through the process. Re/max Professionals Inc. are superbly trained and they have the marketing data, and technolodgy tools to assist in this journey. Real Estate Agents like me work hard to deliver quality service just like any professional that you trust your personal affairs with. Find out more about us at www.remax.ca. It is a very cool site.

During this entire journey many things which I call other stuff is swimming in your head. What is stuff? Its the future colours you want to paint your living room, the type of flowers you want to purchase in the flower garden that you finally are going to have or maybe its pondering on how your tools are going to hang in the must have on the list double car garage instead of behind the back of shed. All this information is swimming in your head like sugar plums, meanwhile the space left inside your brain to keep you on the priority needs list and of course $$$ is sort of lets say trying to swim to the top of the 'TO DO" list. I know I've been there. I've put my italian leather couch many times in living rooms where I don't even own the house yet or could afford the downpayment. But oh no I knew that the leather couch would look great in that house living room or country kitchen. Am I setting the scene for you?

Soon we are going to include businesses , videos, and maybe a photo or two in the Cabins2Castles blog and I want to assure you all you first time home buyers who have the iron will that its purpose is not to take you away from the key factors of purchasing your first home. Its not insignificant stuff either. Its stuff to help, enhance, guide, you once you are ready for their services or what I say to first time home buyers "the stuff of owning a home".

Call these businesses if you need there services. I have created a relationship that is mutually beneficial for all of us.

From Cabins to Castles I love the entire process of bringing buyes and sellers together and all the people that promote and educate us on the stuff that we need inside and outside the home. Its all good.

Any suggestions or if you have an idea to make this blog better or you need me to find out some great stuff. Just consult me In Saint John 506 644 8412 or if you are from away we have a well oiled referral machine at Re/max that can find you the answers.

All the best and create the will to succeed by staying to your list of wants and needs.

By the way I never refuse a referral.

Cheers

Kim

Back from the DRAGON'S DEN

Hello friends out there in House Land:

Reality TV can really get you side tracked so I apologize for not posting as often as I should. Since April 14th I have planned, plotted, executed and returned from Toronto Canada as my company was selected to be a candidate for the fourth season of the CBC National TV show the DRAGON'S DEN.

Stay tuned as I may not be on the cutting floor but on the show. The fourth season starts June 17,th 2009. Right after the NHL playoffs.

Cabins to Castles is a blog that is created to be insightful, helpful and if necessary a good healthy chat about the business of buying, selling your home and all the stuff in-between while owning a home.

Lots to communicate about. If I don't cover a topic on the blog but you need advice don't hesitate to call me and ask. If I can navigate DRAGON'S I can most certainly help you.

By the way I will post once a week and try to have something special for you such as my lastest listing, a great deal on wood for your deck, a neat retailer for you to visit or a tid bit regarding a trend hot off the press from Re/max's head office, or the best mortgage rate.

Did you know that purchasing a home or an income property will give you a greater return then buying a GIC at the bank. Contact me and I will show you how it works.

Its landscaping time and the world of weeds is upon us. Who will win them or us?It is back breaking work and those weeds seem to be able to come up in every nook and cranny.

Solution: Keep on top of it! Thats it. Pesticides work do work but there is lots of research that says they are dangerous to our health and the envirorment. I pull one a day and if the weather is good maybe up to 10. I mow often and by the end of June they have given up. A natural pesticide that works is vinegar, yes vinegar. They really choke on that good old fashion liquid and they wither away.

If you can't handle weeds and making yourself feel good is more important head to the FEEL GOOD STORE and see Anne McShane. Anne can recommend all sorts of wonderful things to enhance your mind body and spirit while nesting inside your home. Anne recommends lots of good things. THE FEEL GOOD STORE is located on 89 Germain Street Saint John, NB 506 6249 or visit Anne at www.thefeelgoodstore.ca

For all you first time home buyers I have a book for you called "How to Buy a Great House" by one of our local Saint John lawyers. I can send it to you by email as it is an eBook. Yes the wave of the future especially for non-fiction information. The book says it all. Starting next month we are also offering a FIRST TIME HOME BUYERS SEMINAR. I have put together a dynamite team of professionals in the industry who can help you start down the biggest investment of your life...your home.

Great chatting with you and stay in touch, remember From Cabins2Castles call Kim!

Cabin2Castles Blog Line up for 2009

Hello Bloggers of Cabins2Castles:

"The greatest success of all ambition is to be happy at home."

Don't you just love that saying. It came from the Priest from the Church of England when Queen Victoria was in reign and the Queen respected that priest so much the Anglican Rector was buried in Westminster Abbey!

When you are happy inside your home and inside yourself life is content. We have so much to be grateful for living in Canada. My mission in this blog is to assist you to feel happy at home and within yourself whether you are in a cabin or humble abode or a castle.

My philosophy will always keep a few mandates in mind.

1- To be ecologically mindful.
2- To be prudent and suggest resources that make sense.
3- To suggest common sense in all the decision making you do regarding your home. If I throw in a few philosophical tid bits. Use them or leave them, as long as you know I am here to help not hinder your selection process. Its all about you.

Today I am going to outline my blog topics for the year, as I am one of those organized types. If I didn't mention this before I am a Real Estate Agent with Re/max Professionals out of Saint John New Brunswick Canada. Wonderful place to live Saint John. Since I was born in Ontario, and a globe trotter for years this is the place to settle down and raise a family and grow old, plus have fun!

I took the time to dig into my history of retail information and guess what my conclusions were.
Nothing is new under the sun. Nothing, so the good thing is there is no surprises about your castle or cabin out, just sharpening your perception and to keep working at improving your home and your life. Isn't that a novel idea.

Enough of me. Here is the line up. If there are any topics that are not covered don't hesitate to contact me because I am a good finder outer about inside scoop. By the way this isn't in any order. There will be 53 in total for the remaining of the year.

Location, location , location, Hallways-Kitchens- Kitchen Appliances- Main Living Area- Bathrooms-Bedrooms-Recreation Rooms- Landscaping-Clutter in Closets-Amenities in the Area-Energy-Light and Heat-Recycling-Lighting-Flooring-Outside Materials for siding-Proportion in your design-Cleanliness, this is a biggie-Colour Coordination-Financing-Decks-Pools and Cabanas-Garages-Fences-Roofs-Windows-Window Coverings-Art and Nick Knacks-Sculptures-Cleaning Products-Organizing Yourself-Shutters-Eve Troughs-What can you handle?-Taxes-Water Metres-Internet and Smart Homes-Fireplaces- Patio Furniture-Do - It- Yourself- Entertaining-Security Systems-Porches and Fences- Insurance-Sound Proofing-Shrubbery-Water Irrigation-Home Weddings...

Love to hear from you. Re//max has a really cool and uncomplicated website for FREE for all you people who are selling your home and need help staging or the good old fashion word merchandising your home to sell it. Go to www.FitToSell.ca and enter in a chance to win aViking Kitchen for $25,000. Re/max has engaged Carla Woolnough a guru in this field. You can also go to howtostageyourownhome.com.

Since I am a former retail merchandiser of JCPenny, and Bloomies I understand that the perception is you must have a knack for this sort of thing. Well you don't! Just follow the process and you can be as talanted as anyone else. We call it a schematic. Remember I said nothing is new under the sun.

All the best until next week. Get ready and stay tuned because I will have a video too.

Cabins2Castles is Launched!

Hello there:

My name is Kim and for people who get to know me they call me Kimmy.

I started my Cabins2Castles blog for a couple of reasons. The first being my passion for real estate and the second for my passion for art and architecture. All homes are important works of art to me, and the artistic creation of how people live is equally important to me. A home is where a person's mind body and soul regroups to face the world. So I started this blog to make a difference for people to understand how culture and commerce live in harmony, hence no matter what you live in a cabin to a castle it is all a work of art to me.

I want to share my experience, my knowledge and what I have to offer in the way of a Real Estate Product or an art product or just to have a conversation about both.

I soon can be followed by twitter as well as facebook, myspace and a youtube. I just love this social networking platform don't you?

I look forward to our conversations and sharing ideas about Real Estate and art.

Yours truly,

Kim, or soon Kimmy to you.
